A security vulnerability in Git that can lead to arbitrary code execution

The Git community has disclosed an industry-wide security vulnerability in Git that can lead to arbitrary code execution when a user operates in a malicious repository. This vulnerability has been assigned CVE 2018-11235 by Mitre, the organization that assigns unique numbers to track security vulnerabilities in software.
Git 2.17.1 and Git for Windows 2.17.1 (2) were released today and include this fix. The Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) team takes security issues very seriously, and we encourage all users to update their Git clients as soon as possible to fix this vulnerability. To further protect you, our team has blocked these types of malicious repositories from being pushed to VSTS. This will ensure that we cannot be used as a vector for transmitting maliciously crafted repositories to users who have not yet patched their clients for this vulnerability.
If you’re using Git for Windows, please download the latest version — 2.17.1 (2)

Kobo’s new entry-level Clara HD e-reader has a crisp, color-adjustable display

Kobo has announced a new e-reader, the Clara HD, which won’t set the world on fire but will be a perfectly good option for e-book readers who don’t want to spend a fortune. It basically revives the well-liked but discontinued Glo HD with a better frontlight and more memory.
The screen is 6 inches and 300 PPI, which is comparable to Amazon’s latest Kindles and high enough that you shouldn’t notice pixelation in the type. More importantly for some, it has the company’s improved frontlight, which can be dialed from the now-familiar cool LED tone to a much, much warmer one. There’s 8 GB of storage inside, more than enough for hundreds of books and comics — but no MicroSD card slot, which some do love to have.
I’ve been using the Clara HD as my daily reader for a week or so and I can vouch for the type quality and

Windows 10 Spring Update Improves Linux On WSL With Unix Sockets and More

Billly Gates writes: Windows 10 build 1803 has come out this month, but with some problems. AnandTech has a deep-dive with the review examing many new features including the much better support for Linux. WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) now has native Curt and Tar from the command prompt as well as a utility to convert Unix to Windows pathnames called WSLpath.exe which is documented here. In addition it was mentioned on Slashdot in the past about OpenSSH being ported natively to Win32 in certain early builds. It now seems the reason was for Linux interoperability with this Spring Update 2. Unix sockets mean you can run Kali Linux on Windows 10 for penetration testing or run an Apache server in the background with full Linux networking support. Deemons now run in the background even with the command prompt closed. […]

What to optimize when you redesign a web or landing page on your site

Great. You’ve setup your Website and analytics, and you’re starting to get leads and sales from your traffic. Is your site perfect?
Websites are never perfect. To get exceptional results and performance from your Website, you need to be constantly refining your funnels and landing pages.
A landing page is any entry page on your site. It can be your homepage, a blog post, your contact page, or any other page by which your visitors enter.
This means that your site has both:
Traditional landing pages: Pages like your homepage, or the conversion pages you use for ad or email traffic; the pages that were designed to act as landing pages.
Unintended landing pages: Pages that by way of sticky content or strong search positioning became landing pages. Those pages can be amplified to get even more results from your site (and you can find those using Highlights).
To get strong results from your landing pages,
