Slack launches threaded messaging to take conversations off to the side

Slack has spent most of its life as a dead-simple workplace communications tool, with small changes happening here or there. But to keep things dead simple means that you have to be very careful when you decide to make any big changes — even if it’s something users have wanted for a long time.
Today, Slack is finally starting to roll out one of those major changes in threaded… Read More

Twitter Just Sold Its Developer Platform To Google

Google has acquired a part of Twitter — the part that isn’t about tweets. Twitter’s mobile developer platform Fabric will become part of Google, both companies announced Wednesday. From a report: Acquired by Twitter in 2014, Fabric is “a modular mobile platform” designed to help app developers improve the “stability, distribution, revenue and identity” of their products, according to Twitter’s blog post. Everything from the ability to natively embed tweets in other apps to signing in with your Twitter credentials were made possible by Fabric. Now that it’s been reacquired, Fabric will merge with Google’s Firebase development platform. “We quickly realized that our missions are the same — helping mobile teams build better apps, understand their users, and grow their businesses,” the Fabric team wrote in its announcement. “Fabric and Firebase operate mobile platforms with unique strengths in the market today.” And if you’re an existing Fabric customer, don’t worry,

Slack finally launches threaded replies

Slack, the popular work chat app, has launched one of the features that users have been clamoring for over its entire lifetime: Threaded messages.
On Wednesday, the company began the process of rolling out the update to all of its users, which will allow them to keep conversations about a particular topic corralled into a single thread. The feature is designed to keep conversations on a particular topic out of the main flow of a chat channel, the company said in a blog post.
Starting a thread just requires users to hover over a message, click the “Start a Thread” button, and type their response. Replies will be grouped into a sidebar thread, and a small link will appear below the original message showing who has replied to a thread and how many replies it has garnered. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Tiny Guide to Non Fancy Node

README.md

A tiny guide to non fancy, high-value Node.js things. Because we’re folks that
want to build fun things, rather than spending time fighting our tools.

Introduction

Node.js is a truly neat piece of software. It has one of the largest
programming communities, and somehow both a very low barrier to entry and a
high skill cap. Picking Node as the hammer in your programming toolbox is not a
bad choice.

Node can be a little overwhelming though. Because of the low barrier to entry
for both writing and publishing software, it can sometimes become hard to find
exactly what you need. That’s why this tiny guide exists: a little set of
opinions to help guide you in the vast world of Node.

Obviously other people will have different opinions, and that’s cool. This is
what I’ve found to work for me, over the years. It’s fine if we disagree.
But there might be a chance you’ll find this works
