Ardour 5 released

Ardour 5.0 is now available for Linux, OS X
and Windows. This is a major release focused on
substantial changes to the GUI and major new features related
to mixing, plugin use, tempo maps, scripting and more. As
usual, there are also hundreds of bug fixes. Ardour 5.0 can be
parallel-installed with older versions of the program, and
does not use the same preference files. It will load sessions
from Ardour 2, 3 and 4, though with some potential minor
changes.

Windows is now a supported platform

This is the first version of Ardour with official Windows
support. Several years
of products
based
on Ardour and our own nightly builds for Windows have made
us confident that Ardour runs just as well on Windows as other
platforms. We will not be providing support
with:
installing Ardour on Windows
issues with audio hardware
system- or user-specific issues

After a first release 5.0.0 published one month ago, the digiKam team is proud to announce the new release 5.1.0 of digiKam Software Collection. This version introduces a new huge bugs triage and some fixes following first feedback from end-users.

ZFS High-Availability NAS

The ZFS filesystem has been a game-changer in the way I approach local data storage, shared storage, replication and general data backup and protection.

I’ve been a long-time proponent of ZFS storage in a variety of scenarios, going back to my first experiments with OpenSolaris in 2008, buying my own ZFS Thumper/Thor in 2009, adopting ZFS on Linux for production use in 2012, and through my continued contributions to StackExchange|ServerFault.

ZFS Advantages:

More intelligent storage for application servers and a serious replacement for LVM.
Great shared storage options to back virtualization environments.
Useful for expandable backup targets.
Atomic snapshots.
Flexible replication.
Transparent filesystem compression.
ZFS Downsides:

Good ZFS implementations sometimes require specialized knowledge.
It’s easy to make bad or irreversible mistakes. (often due to poor design or inappropriate hardware choices).
There’s lots of contradictory ZFS information online due to ZFS’s appeal to “home lab” users.
Options for high availability are either costly, tightly associated with commercial storage solutions or

You can also use our tool to create (very finite) interactive workflows, menu prototypes and image adventures.
